{"id":89,"date":"2021-01-13T09:01:07","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T09:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fairsharing.org\/?p=89"},"modified":"2021-07-21T11:41:12","modified_gmt":"2021-07-21T10:41:12","slug":"terms4fairskills-a-terminology-for-fair-stewardship-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.fairsharing.org\/?p=89","title":{"rendered":"terms4FAIRskills &#8211; A terminology for FAIR Stewardship Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#terms4FAIRskills hackathons \u2013 December 2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>By Laura Molloy and Peter McQuilton<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>This post is reproduced from the original posted on Dec 16th, 2020 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/codata.org\/blog\/2020\/12\/16\/terms4fairskills-hackathons-december-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CODATA blog<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The terms4FAIRskills core team was delighted to welcome a group of keen annotators from across Europe to join in a hackathon on 11th and 15th December 2020.&nbsp; Participants from&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fairsfair.eu\/fair-competence-centre\" target=\"_blank\">FAIRsFAIR<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/fairsharing.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">FAIRsharing<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/tess.elixir-europe.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ELIXIR<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eosc-pillar.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\">EOSC-Pillar<\/a>, the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dcc.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Curation Centre<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/dans.knaw.nl\/en\" target=\"_blank\">DANS<\/a>,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cines.fr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">CINES<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/codata.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">CODATA<\/a>&nbsp;worked actively with a range of training materials of their choice, and experimented with annotating these materials with terms from the current version of the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/terms4fairskills.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\">terms4FAIRskills<\/a>&nbsp;terminology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/terms4fairskills.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">terms4FAIRskills<\/a>&nbsp;project aims to create a formalised terminology that describes the competencies, skills and knowledge associated with making and keeping data FAIR.&nbsp; When mature, this terminology will apply to a variety of use cases, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>To assist with the creation and assessment of data stewardship curricula;<\/li><li>To facilitate the annotation, discovery and evaluation of FAIR-enabling materials (e.g. training) and resources;<\/li><li>To enable the formalisation of job descriptions and CVs\/r\u00e9sum\u00e9s with recognised, structured competencies.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The completed terminology will be of use to trainers who teach FAIR data skills, researchers who wish to identify skill gaps in their teams, and managers who need to recruit individuals to relevant roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Started as a volunteer, bottom-up effort, #terms4FAIRskills has recently received an EOSC co-creation grant to enable collaborative development of the terminology via a&nbsp;<strong>core team<\/strong>&nbsp;of ontology experts alongside a&nbsp;<strong>coordinating group<\/strong>.
